  • What is etA VR Training?

ETA VR Training is a virtual reality application that integrates with an LMS, allowing users to practice or demonstrate competency in common OJT electrical tasks through an immersive environment.

  • Who should use etA VR Training?

The ETA VR modules augment existing coursework by offering students authentic, job-specific experiences within a virtual setting. These modules are intended to supplement and reinforce training content from other curriculum areas, rather than replace it.

  • How do I get started?

If you are using a device provided by the electrical training ALLIANCE:

    1. Read the headset setup guidelines included inside the VR headset box.
    2. Turn on the device using the power button located on the left side of the headset.
    3. Once inside the Meta Quest system, verify that the device is connected to Wi-Fi.
      • If you need help with Wi-Fi setup, scan the QR code in the provided setup guideline.
    4. Locate and open the etA_Training_Dis application to begin the training experience and follow your program’s instructions through the LMS system.

If you are using a personal device:

    1. Ensure your device is either a Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3s.

    To Recenter Your View:

    1. Press the Meta (Oculus) button on your right controller to open the Universal Menu.
    2. Look straight ahead at the direction you want to be the new “forward” position.
    3. In the Quick Settings panel, select “Reset View” or “Recenter”.
    4. Your view will adjust to match the direction you are facing.

To Reset or Redraw the Guardian Boundary:

    1. Press the Meta button to open the Universal Menu.
    2. Select the Quick Settings
    3. Choose “Guardian” or “Boundary”
    4. Select “Reset Guardian” or “Clear Guardian History.”
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to redraw your boundary, either:
      • Roomscale, where you trace the play area, or
      • Stationary, for seated/standing use.

Make sure you are in a safe, open area before redrawing the boundary.

  • To Cast Your VR Experience

If you are using a VR device provisioned by the electrical training ALLIANCE, the casting feature is enabled with the ability to cast to a web browser.

    To cast your VR experience:

    1. Press the Meta (Oculus) button on your right controller to open the Universal Menu.
    2. Select the Camera or Share
    3. Choose “Cast”.
    4. Select “Cast to Web Browser.”
    5. On your computer, open the approved casting link (displayed inside headset).

Confirm the casting request if prompted.

  • Why am I seeing (“Failed to install applications. Something went wrong while provisioning this device. Please restart setup.”)?

    Cause:

Usually indicates that the headset couldn’t complete the software installation. This can often happen due to a temporary network or connection issue.

    Solution:

    1. Restart your device:
      • Power off the headset completely, then power it back on and try the setup again.
    2. Check your Wi-Fi connection:
      • Please verify that these networks don’t have any restrictions or firewalls that could block downloads.
      • If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If setup fails several times in a row, the headset may automatically prompt you to connect to a new network.
    3. Contact support at etavrsupport@etalliance.org to have the headset factory reset and re-enrolled into the system.
      • For etA-Managed Devices
        1. Do not factory reset the headset on your own unless instructed.
        2. If a reset is needed, contact support at: etavrsupport@etalliance.org
        3. The support team will factory reset the headset and re-enroll it into the system so it stays properly managed and configured for etA VR Training.
  • How do I get username and access to access the module?

Currently the only way to access the modules is to be enrolled in the etA VR (formerly Virtual Reality, Branch Circuit Wiring) course. Once in this course proceed to Lesson 2 and later lessons (Lesson 1 is the legacy IVRY Branch Circuit wiring content). Once in Lesson view the etA VR – Introduction video for details on how to enable the headset to communicate with the learning management system to save the student’s scores.

Additionally, much more content is available on the LMS Resources page, located here.

  • Why can’t Instructor get Access Code?

The etA VR app enables students to access VR modules and gives instructors easy access to students’ quiz results through the reporting system. While instructors can’t start new quiz attempts, they can log in as students to personally experience the VR modules.

  • Why can’t I see the application after launching (only see the room I am in)?

    Cause:

Sometimes after shipping and starting the headset in a new environment if will not ask to redraw the boundary.

    Solution:

Follow the steps in “How do I recenter or reset my Guardian boundary?”

  • Why can’t I enter alphabetic characters on the login page

If you are unable to enter alphabetic characters on the login page, this is expected behavior. The login field is designed to accept numbers only, and alphabetic input is intentionally restricted.

This issue typically occurs when the user is in the wrong lesson module.
    To resolve the problem:

    1. Verify that you are in the correct lesson.
      1. Number input is only supported for passcode in Lesson 2.
      2. The system will block alphabetic characters.
    2. Return to the LMS and select Lesson 2

  • How do I connect my Oculus 3 to Wifi?

    Simply follow the link below:
    Set Up Your VR WiFi

  • How do I allow pop ups on my phone or tablet to generate a login token?

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Safari and turn off Block Pop-ups.

Once you’ve allowed pop-ups, log into the LMS and attempt to generate a login token. You should now successfully see a 6 character token appear on your screen!

  • Why am I on the edge of a boundary when I open the VET app?

For the Branch Circuit Wiring Modules in Lesson 1it is recommended that  you use the same 10’x10’ space continuously, as you will avoid these types of issues.

If you are using a consistent space and still spawn on the edge of the boundary, position yourself in the center of your physical 10’x10’ space and hold down the Oculus button for roughly 3 seconds. Once you do so, it will re-center your guardian boundary.

  • My headset died during the experience, what do I do now?

Unfortunately, the VR applications do not save your progress at this time. You will need to charge your headset, and re-enter into the application when your headset is properly charged.

  • How do I submit scores to the LMS?

Because you have logged into the VR application using a unique token ID, the software recognizes your account from the Blended Learning account you used to authenticate the experience.

For the branch circuit wiring modules in Lesson 1, make sure that submit your scores before exiting out of the application. Once you exit out of the guided or test lesson, the scores will be sent to your LMS.

  • How many attempts will I get to go through VET’s lessons?

The VR software allows for an unlimited number of attempts for students to go through the VR. However, students will be advised by their instructors with specific instructions.

  • How long does it take to complete a VET lesson?

Each of the lessons vary in length, but you should expect each individual lesson taking 10-20 minutes. This time will differ based on your familiarity of the electrical tasks in the lesson, as well as your comfortability with VR.

  • I get motion sickness very easily; will I be able to go through the VR?

While VR users usually don’t have any motion sickness using the VR headset, there are some precautions you can take.

    1. The VR headset should be snug on your face, but not too tight. Make sure that you have also adjusted the lenses to match the pupillary distance of your eyes. Doing so will make sure that the picture is clear and crisp.
    2. Use the VR in a well-lit area. The sensors in the headset need to see your surroundings in order to construct the virtual environment so you can interact with it.
    3. When walking around in the virtual environment, take your time. Slow, steady movements will help combat any latency due to quick movements.
    4. Limit your initial time spent in VR, with the goal of increasing as time goes on. If possible, start with 5–10 minutes for your first few VR experiences. Aim to increase that range by 5 minutes every few days and continue building on that range until you feel completely comfortable in the VR.
  • Can I go through the VET lessons on my computer?

Currently, our virtual reality training is only accessible on the Oculus Quest platform  through HMDs (head-mounted displays).

  • I can’t log into VR with the token

First, make sure that the token you are entering into the VR application is the same token that shows from your LMS. If you are entering the token correctly, ensure that your headset is connected to WiFi. If you still can’t get into the application, completely quit the app on your headset and restart it. Once the app has restarted, try re-entering the token.
